Five animated boss bars with generic emblems: one frame fits any boss of its theme.
Minecraft Java 1.21.11 · Vanilla resource pack · Oraxen · Nexo · Raw textures included
An orc head only fits an orc. These frames carry a symbol instead (a horned crest, a snowflake, an eclipse, an emerald, a crowned shield), so the same bar works for your fire titan, your frost knight or your final king. Each theme takes over one vanilla boss bar colour: a boss uses a theme just by its bar colour.
The five bars
- Infernal (red bar): black iron crest with gold trim, two horns, a cut fire gem, flames behind. Cracked basalt with running lava, embers, stretching lava drops.
- Glacial (blue bar): six-branch crystal snowflake on a silver medallion with a sapphire heart. Cut ice, crystal clusters, icicles, twinkling tips.
- Void (purple bar): an eclipse, black disc with a slow swirl and a ring of violet rays. Obsidian, runes lighting up one after another, floating shards.
- Verdant (green bar): almond emerald set in gold, golden leafy antlers and roots. Twisted gold-ringed wood, swaying leaves, opening flowers.
- Royal (yellow bar): crowned winged purple shield, gold and ruby diamond, crossed swords. Gold-trimmed steel, rivets, floating banners, slowly beating wings.
What you get
- 5 frames, 228 × 42 GUI pixels, built around the vanilla 182 × 5 health channel, which stays fully visible.
- 32 animation frames per theme (125 ms each, 4 second loop) plus a still frame.
- Flowing health fills and matching empty backgrounds for the 5 colours.
- A painted alphabet per theme for the boss name: A to Z, apostrophe, hyphen and 13 accented capitals (À Â Ç È É Ê Ë Î Ï Ô Ù Û Ü). Plain Minecraft text works too.
- Three ready setups: a vanilla resource pack (no plugin needed), an Oraxen setup and a Nexo setup.
- Raw PNG textures of every frame, fill and alphabet, to edit or recolour.
How it shows in game
Each boss uses three boss bars, shown in this order, top to bottom. The game centres every title by itself, so there is nothing to calculate:
- a white bar with an empty title (spacing, the pack makes white bars invisible);
- a white bar whose title is the boss name, in the theme font or in plain text;
- a bar of the theme colour whose title is the frame: the boss health fills the frame.
The still frame works with no extra setup. To animate it, your boss plugin or script sets the next frame (frames 1 to 32) as the title of bar 3 every 125 ms (every 2 to 3 ticks).
Installation
Vanilla (no plugin)
- Use ResourcePack/NyxBossbars_Vol1.zip as your server resource pack, or merge it into yours.
- Frames are in the font nyxbossbars:bar, names in nyxbossbars:<theme>. Example with commands (Infernal, "MOLTEN TITAN"):
/bossbar add nyx:spacer {"text": ""}
/bossbar set nyx:spacer color white
/bossbar add nyx:name {"text": "MOLTEN TITAN", "font": "nyxbossbars:infernal"}
/bossbar set nyx:name color white
/bossbar add nyx:boss {"text": "\uea00", "font": "nyxbossbars:bar"}
/bossbar set nyx:boss color red
/bossbar set nyx:spacer players @a
/bossbar set nyx:name players @a
/bossbar set nyx:boss players @aOraxen
- Copy the content of the Oraxen folder into plugins/Oraxen/ (it adds glyphs/nyxbossbars.yml, pack/textures/nyxbossbars/ and pack/assets/).
- Run /oraxen reload all (or restart) so the resource pack is rebuilt and sent.
- Frame glyphs: nyxbb_infernal, nyxbb_glacial, nyxbb_void, nyxbb_verdant, nyxbb_royal; PlaceholderAPI: %oraxen_nyxbb_infernal%; animation frames nyxbb_infernal_1 to nyxbb_infernal_32.
Nexo
- Copy the content of the Nexo folder into plugins/Nexo/ (it adds glyphs/nyxbossbars/ and pack/external_packs/NyxBossbars/).
- Run /nexo reload all (or restart).
- Frame glyphs: nyxbb_infernal to nyxbb_royal; MiniMessage <glyph:nyxbb_infernal>; PlaceholderAPI: %nexo_nyxbb_infernal%; animation frames nyxbb_infernal_1 to nyxbb_infernal_32.
The full guide, with the character map of every frame, is in README.txt inside the download.
Compatibility
- Tested in game on Minecraft Java 1.21.11 (Paper 1.21.11) with the vanilla pack, Oraxen 1.214.0 and Nexo 1.29.1. The vanilla pack uses pack format 75 (1.21.11).
- Oraxen and Nexo are optional: the vanilla pack needs no plugin.
- The pack retextures the red, blue, purple, green and yellow boss bar fills and makes white boss bars invisible: other boss bars using these colours get the themed fills too. Pink bars stay vanilla.
