BetterFarming
Automatic crop and tree farms. Grow more, upgrade, and earn.
Wiki | Discord

Give players a farm that keeps growing while they build, explore, or look after their land. Place a farm, plant nearby, and let BetterFarming grow and harvest the crops into storage, ready for the next cycle. No repeated clicking or complicated redstone build needed.

Turn a small starter plot into a long-term goal with upgrades, stacking, and optional automatic sales. You choose the crops, rewards, prices, and limits that fit your Survival, Skyblock, or economy server.

More than the crops in the screenshots
The pictures show just one small example. Sugar cane, cactus, nether wart, wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots, melons, pumpkins, and sweet berries are included in the default crop setup. Tree farms support saplings too.

Create your own farm types with different supported blocks, harvest drops, drop chances, and growth speeds. Add custom item rewards or themed crops using custom heads and model data. Players can check the Harvestable Blocks menu to see exactly what each farm accepts.

Harvest items or sell them automatically
Let players choose what their farms produce for them: building supplies, items to trade, or income.

  1. Auto-sell: sell eligible harvested items automatically and credit the farm owner. Set a price per item to keep income in line with your economy.
  2. Internal storage: keep harvests ready to collect. Collect individual items or use Collect All; anything that will not fit stays in storage.
  3. Automatic output: connect UpgradeableHoppers below the farm to move harvests into your item transport system.

Auto-sell is available when sell prices are configured and the player has the toggle permission. Items without a sell price stay in storage. Each farm uses either auto-sell or hopper output at a time.

Give players something to work toward
Start small and invest in better farms. A single level upgrade can increase the radius, speed up growth, and expand storage together. The menu shows the next level's benefits and price before players buy.

Set your own tiers and costs using Vault money, experience, levels, or item currency. Offer different farm types, enable crafting recipes, and use optional fuel to create an ongoing demand for resources.

Players can purchase farms with /farm get. You can also sell them through third-party shop plugins that run console commands, using /farm admin give to deliver the farm items.

More production in the same space
With stacking enabled, place another matching farm item inside an existing farm to add it to the stack. Matching farms share one location, with faster growth and more storage when those attributes are configured to scale. The farm keeps the same radius, so players can expand production without covering their island or town in separate farm centers.

Control stack limits for your server and farm types, with permission-based caps where needed.

Protect the farm and its harvests
Keep private farms private. Control planting, harvesting, block breaking, block placement, interactions, upgrades, configuration, and removal through farm protection rules. Enable explosion protection, or make selected farms public for community use without handing out upgrade or removal access.

Lands integration
Build farming into your Lands server. BetterFarming checks claim permissions, can allow region members to use farms, and checks expanding farm areas during radius upgrades. Configurable cleanup can remove affected farms when land is unclaimed or their owner loses claim access.

Make farms part of your community's progression: Lands land and nation levels can require a chosen number of BetterFarming farms.

ChestProtect integration
Manage shared farms through ChestProtect. With ChestProtect installed and protections enabled in the world, farms automatically receive a protection. Trust players and assign their roles through ChestProtect, then use BetterFarming's role rules to control what they can do on the farm.

Without a ChestProtect protection, private farm access is owner-only unless configured region-member access applies.

Built with server performance in mind
Offer automatic farming without asking every player to build a large redstone harvesting machine. Growth calculations run in the background, and visual growth updates are spread across farms. You can reduce or disable growth visuals to suit your server.

Stacking keeps additional production in one farm area. Set player and farm-type limits, growth intervals, stack caps, and optional owner-online requirements to control how farming scales. Farms pause when storage is full, fuel is empty, or there is nothing to grow. Folia is supported.

Easy to manage, wherever players join
Use /farm list to find your farms, collect storage from all of them, or refuel them together. Farm menus show what is running and what needs attention. Optional fuel purchases and low-fuel warnings help players keep production going.

Bedrock players joining through Geyser and Floodgate can use form menus. Customize menu text and translations, add PlaceholderAPI farm information to your server displays, or show fuel and storage above farms with DecentHolograms, CMI, or HolographicDisplays.

Your economy, your rules
Balance farming around your server rather than changing your server around farming.

  1. Set purchase prices, upgrade costs, sell prices, harvest quantities, and drop chances.
  2. Create farm types with their own crops, levels, fuel, recipes, and world restrictions.
  3. Assign farm limits through permission groups and reward playtime with extra farm slots.
  4. Use SQLite or MySQL, with scheduled backups and staff backup tools.
  5. Connect existing systems with the public API and PlaceholderAPI support.

Get started
Java 25 or higher is required.
[LIST=1]Stop the server, place BetterFarming.jar in the plugins folder, and start it.Choose farm types, levels, crops, and rewards in farms.yml. Set your economy and protection options in config.yml.Grant betterfarming.command.get and betterfarming.command.list. Players can get started with /farm get, then place and plant their farm.

For money-based costs and sales, install Vault and a compatible economy plugin. Lands, ChestProtect, UpgradeableHoppers, holograms, and the other integrations are optional additions. Follow the Wiki for setup details, and restart after structural farm-type changes.
