UpgradeableSpawners
Spawner upgrades, stacking, and butcher mode for your Minecraft server.
Wiki | Discord

UpgradeableSpawners lets players upgrade mob spawners, unlock mob types, and combine matching spawners into one block. This Minecraft spawner plugin gives you control over upgrade costs, mob drops, and entity limits for survival, skyblock, and economy servers.

  1. Spawner upgrades: one combined level with five configurable stats.
  2. Spawner stacking: merge matching spawner blocks into one stack.
  3. Built-in mob stacking: represent multiple mobs with fewer visible entities.
  4. Butcher mode: generate loot without keeping visible mobs alive.
  5. Java and Bedrock menus: inventory menus for Java and form menus for Bedrock players through Floodgate.

Configurable spawner upgrades
Right-click a spawner to open its management menu. The upgrade preview shows the current stats, the next level's values, and the price before a player buys one combined upgrade.

Create as many upgrade levels as you want in spawners.yml, each with its own name, stat values, and cost. Every level contains all five stats. Keep a value the same across levels if you do not want it to change.

  1. Spawn interval: the wait between spawn attempts.
  2. Spawn amount: how many mobs the spawner tries to spawn per batch.
  3. Spawns during period: the output allowed during a configured period.
  4. Player distance: how far away a player can be while keeping the spawner active.
  5. Nearby entities: how many nearby mobs of the same type are allowed before pausing.

Unlock mob types and keep your progress
Set a price and permission for each available entity type. Purchased types stay unlocked on that spawner, so players can switch back without paying again.

Successfully retrieved spawner items keep their upgrades, selected and purchased entity types, and period progress. Configure allowed tools, Silk Touch requirements, and pickup chance to decide how players can move their farms.

More spawners in one block
Enable spawner stacking to merge nearby spawners with the same entity type and upgrade level. A single block represents the combined stack, and upgrading it upgrades every spawner inside.

  1. Configure merge distance and maximum stack size, including player-specific stack limits.
  2. Choose which stats scale with stack size and whether upgrade costs scale too.
  3. Mine one spawner out, or allow sneak-breaking the whole stack.
  4. Drop separate items or a bundled item that rebuilds the stack when placed.
  5. Decide whether each spawner in a stack counts toward player and chunk limits.

Mob stacking is included too
Spawner stacking combines blocks. Mob stacking combines spawned mobs so one visible entity can represent multiple mobs. Configure these features separately; the entity stacking system is bundled with UpgradeableSpawners.

Butcher mode: harvest loot directly
Butcher mode generates drops without keeping visible mobs alive around the spawner. Let players toggle it per spawner, or force it for selected entity types. Use normal loot or configure custom item drops.

With UpgradeableHoppers, an upgradeable hopper underneath collects butcher-mode drops automatically. You can require a connected hopper before butcher mode runs. Without that requirement, loot can drop at the spawner.

Automatic hopper collection uses the optional UpgradeableHoppers plugin.

Java menus and Bedrock forms
Java players manage spawners through inventory menus. Bedrock players connecting through your Geyser/Floodgate setup can use form menus for spawner management and upgrades. Customize menu items, titles, lore, and player messages.

The status item explains why a spawner is paused: player distance, nearby or area entity limits, period limits, redstone power, or a missing required hopper. Players with access can also pause and resume a spawner manually.

Add status holograms through a supported hologram plugin. Players can find their placed spawners with /spawners list, open their menus when the chunks are loaded, and teleport when enabled by your server.

Economy, limits, and server settings

  1. Flexible economy: charge for spawners, upgrades, mob types, and teleportation. Use Vault with a compatible economy plugin, or configure experience or item currency.
  2. Placement and output limits: set player and chunk spawner limits, stack caps, and entity limits by area or period. Optionally pause spawning with redstone power.
  3. Ownership and protection: restrict placement by world, item ownership, or supported claims. Allow trusted members to manage spawners in Lands, WorldGuard, BentoBox, SuperiorSkyblock2, and PlotSquared regions when enabled in your protection settings.
  4. Custom mob rewards: configure item drops, chances, amounts, and experience rewards per entity type. Add to or replace normal loot.
  5. SQLite or MySQL: start with the default SQLite database or configure MySQL. Use database backup and restore tools and scheduled backups to manage stored data.
  6. Staff tools and API: give leveled spawners, inspect players, teleport to spawners by ID, and connect your own features through the developer API.

Lands integration
Running Lands? Let trusted land members share spawner management, and keep farms inside your claimed areas.

  1. Use land trust checks to control who can place and manage spawners.
  2. Optionally require spawners to be placed inside claims.
  3. Add spawner-count requirements to land and nation levels.

Optional integrations
Install the integrations you need for their extra features:

  1. Economy: Vault with a compatible economy plugin.
  2. Claims and skyblock: Lands, WorldGuard, BentoBox, SuperiorSkyblock2, and PlotSquared.
  3. Status holograms: CMI, DecentHolograms, FancyHolograms, or HolographicDisplays.
  4. Butcher-mode collection: UpgradeableHoppers.
  5. Bedrock form menus: Floodgate with your Geyser cross-play setup.

UpgradeableSpawners supports Folia. Check the current release's supported Minecraft versions before downloading.

Get started
Java 25 or higher is required.

  1. 1. Install: stop your server, place the plugin JAR in the plugins folder, and start once to generate configuration files.
  2. 2. Configure: set levels in spawners.yml, mobs and drops in entities.yml, and server rules in config.yml. Assign player permissions, then restart.
  3. 3. Play: use /spawners get, place a spawner, and right-click to manage it. Use /spawners list to find your placed spawners.

See the Wiki for installation, configuration, and permissions.

Frequently asked questions
Can I upgrade each stat separately?
Each spawner has one combined level. The next level applies all five configured values together for one cost. You decide which values change at each level.

Are spawner stacking and mob stacking the same?
No. Spawner stacking combines matching spawner blocks. Mob stacking combines living mobs into fewer visible entities. Configure them separately.

Does butcher mode require UpgradeableHoppers?
Only for automatic hopper collection, or if you enable the hopper requirement. Otherwise, butcher-mode loot can drop at the spawner.

Do upgrades reset when a spawner is moved?
No. Successfully retrieved spawner items preserve their upgrades and purchased mob types. Your tool, permission, and pickup-chance settings determine whether retrieval succeeds.
